It's a Girl Thing

In 2023 we ran an all-girls youth club called It’s A Girl Thing, which ran for 36 weeks, two hours every Wednesday. During our programme we had 40 young females attend aged 9-25. Through our program we had many of our older cohort 17-25 take part in workshops (employment and educational) through these workshops some of our female cohort were able to obtain part-time and full-time employment.

Our younger females aged 9-16 were regular attendees and used the youth club as a time to not only socialise with their age mates but also use the two hours as time to speak on current issues they are facing and how they’re being affected mentally, emotionally, and physically. Each of our sessions had a theme attached e.g. dealing with emotions, employment, and financial literacy.

Through these workshops and conversations we had with our young female cohort, many of them outlined the issues they were currently facing or had previously faced e.g. abuse, exploitation, difficulty displaying the correct behaviour within the school setting, employment issues, societal pressures etc. Through these conversations we were able to signpost our young females to local services that can best support them moving forward, alongside this we also created individual pathway plans tailored to each individual female and the problem they were facing.

We have been fortunate to work some fantastic partners that have helped to bring this workshop to young women and girls across London. We are always keen to find new funders or partners. If you would like to support us to bring this empowering and inspiring workshop to more young women and girls, please contact us
